Flame Angel is dying - what should I do?

When I looked in my tank today my flame angel is laying on his side breathing heavely. He cannot even swim.

Should I put him out of his misery? I have never seen a fish come back when it is this far gone.

I have a QT tank but it is a week away from being ready.

is this from the ich? if so i would try to feed him foods with garlic as that will help boast their immune system. won't cure the prob. but as long as he is eating i would say keep trying until the qt tank is ready.

He is dead now. He seemed healthy at the store. He was swimming and eating, started to withdrawl a little (keeping in the rocks) and I found him all but dead this morning. Here is a pic. I think there is some white stuff on him but I never say it until this morning when he was laying on his side.

Sorry about the losses. You have quite a young tank there, by the looks of the sand and rock. Give it some time. Tanks stabalize with age.

Do you have other fish in your tank?

Also, it is usually best to hold off on fish like angels until your system is at least 6 months old, if not a year. It will be more stable.

Thanks Techigirl78. I had a clown for 20 hours and the angel for about three days. I think I acclimated improperly or something. I should have used the drip method and not the cup method. I also think the angel may have had ich as you can see the white in the pic.

My params have remained stable throughout this and my shrimp \ 5 snails are doing excellent after 3 weeks. I setup a qt tank which will need time to cycle and i am going to wait about 2-3 months and add a chromis or something as a test.

Wait at least 8 weeks in case it was ich. Then, maybe try adding a small goby or blenny if you don't care much for chromis. They cause little waste, so usually cycling isn't as much of an issue with live rock and they do not seem very prone to a number of diseases. I started that way and it seemed to help me.
