Damsel from hell

Van Damsel has been a part of our family for 5 years. I recently moved our tank so I have van damsel in a holding tank. My question is...If I add all the other fish back to the tank, let them get settled and then add van damsel, will he still be aggressive? I was thinking of waiting a week before I add him. Maybe it will help a little? I would like to keep him...actually it is a her!

The last added fish has to go more slowly and keep a careful watch on his/her tail. It does help occasionally...one of the best ways to break up a feud is to take both participants out of the tank, put them in qt together, then readd them to the tank.

It will likely re establish its territory and go back to bossing the others around. I had a beautiful blue damsel that I ended up fishing out and giving back to my LFS. It was amazing how much calmer everyone was once it was gone.

I have a bad feeling she wont learn her lesson in time out Maybe I will bring her to the fish store. My gobies actually come out in the open now that she is gone. Less stress!!! Thank you.

Some damsel when older and larger get very aggressive and have know to kill other fish. My LFS sometimes get the large damsels given to them, because it started to kill other tank mates. They also have a hard time given the damsel away!

That's why I spell them 'damnsels'. In their defence, they are only doing what comes naturally but why add the extra stress to your other fish when it isn't necessary?

Dangit! I wanted to say that!!

When I "inherited" a FOWLR and started to convert to a reef, it had 4 domino damsels and 4 blue damsels. Those little bastards were all from hell! I accidentally killed all 4 of the dominoes... serious... was an accident during the first water change... dont really want to talk about it. It was hell trying to catch the 4 blues... but all but one were eventually apprehended and sent to the LFS. My tank is MUCH happier now. Just get rid of van damsel... or put him in a tank filled with lionfish, eels, etc etc... and see how mean "fresh meat" is then!
