Product Review - Tunze 9015 DOC Skimmer

Just thought I'd share my first impressions of this skimmer.

First off, even though I have always sworn (and still do) by Euro-Reef skimmers, I wanted something more energy efficient and smaller for my new system.

After some homework I decided on the Tunze 9015 DOC. It's very small in all directions and it only consumes 15 watts of electricity, yet it's rated for over 300 gallons. Seems too good to be true...

So I got one and I can tell you it works very well. It's easy to adjust, easy to clean, and it's even relatively quiet (you do hear a little air suction sound, but not as bad as some skimmers I've had). All in all, I'd say that if space and power consumption are an issue for you, this is probably the best skimmer available.

If space and power are not an issue, I would say my old Euro-Reef probably pulled a bit more gunk out of the tank.

Hope someone finds this info helpful...

Danny

Retails for $427, but I can get it for a bit less...

Not the cheapest, but my experience with Tunze has been nothing but perfect on their other products and I expect the same with this skimmer.

Like I said, if space is an issue, this is a great skimmer...

9010 = 9015?

The specifications of the 9010 and the 9015 appear to be the same except for the size of the collection cup and the price. You decide.
