Silly Noob Question about Salt Mix Ratio
I am in the process of setting up my first salt water reef tank in years. I have Tropic Marin Pro Reef salt and the package has zero instructions on the proper starting mix ratio.
Is the apropriate starting ration about 1/2 cup of salt mix per gallon of water? Thanks, Matt |

That's generally what most people use though you'll probably want to check after you mix it up to verify the water is at the SG you're aiming for.

You need to pick a number you want to be at. 1.024 to 1.026 is a good range.
Buy yourself a refractometer. If you're off by any large amount when you have any kind of life in there, you'll kill it all. If you're at 1.025 and you go as high as 1.030 or as low at 1.020 in one step, it's all over. It's not as hard to do as it sounds either. In a small tank, that could be a extra half cup of salt since you were distracted by the phone or had to answer the door...... |
