Upgrading my Outer Orbit Lights
I need a little insight on this. I currently have a 36" 1x150watt Halide, and actinics. This is on a 65 gal tank. The halide is right in the middle and the light doesn't reach the corners of the tank. The plastic strip in the middle doesn't help either. I have a leather, frogspawn, xenia, and a lobo coral. I want to upgrade to the outer orbit 2x150. I am running out of room where the light is in my tank. How hard is this going to be on my corals? Is this recommended, any suggestions and comments would be great. Thanks in advance. Eddie

Ed, think what you want to do down the line, do you have plans of going for a bigger tank, if you are, just wait, if you plan on keeping this size tank for many more years to come, go ahead and get the 2x150, it will be more than fine for your setup, and your corals will love you for it, take care.

Thanks, I am sure I will upgrade one day to a larger tank. But right now I am running out of "light" room for my corals. There are still several things I plan on putting in the tank.

Have you thought about modding your outer orbit?
I have the 24" version and I may try to add another MH in there. |

I don't know, I would have to pull the light out and cut out on both side of the existing hole in the middle. And I don't know the first thing about wiring, or ballasts and everything else it entails. If you do it let me know, I really don't need to be sleeping in the dog house for buying a 600.00 light.

To be honest, neither do I.
I'm really busy until december 2. Maybe after that I'll embark on this project... |

Not sure what's the purpose of putting 2 lights on a 24" fixture as a single bulb is good for 24x24 coverage. You'd have a lot of overlap, unless you were trying to mimic a 300W bulb, which I still don't think it would acheive that affect.

I'd have to look up to see if they have a 36" w/ 2xMH150
Also are actinics T5 or PC? I'd probably just sell the one you have and bump up. I have the orbit MH T5 and love it.
