Sump for a 92G RR Design Questions
Sump for a 92G RR Design Questions
Space is a premium under these things. I am using a 20G, 24x12x16, tank as a sump. I have a Euro reef 6+2 skimmer and a Eheim 1260 as a return pump. Would a 2 baffle over / under design be sufficient to reduce microbubbles? The baffles would be 3" apart. The "under" baffle would be 2" from the bottom. I'm using 1/4 inch lexan for the baffles. I thought I'd use a 100 micron filter bag for the water entering the sump. Also, I read something about using EPDM foam rubber weather stripping on the edges of the baffles as opposed to siliconing them in place. Looked interesting. Has anyone tried this? All suggestion will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Bill

I just re-did the sump under my 65. It's a 10 gallon with 2 baffles. My drain line goes right into the one compartment (no filter sock) and kicks out a TON of bubbles. None of them make it back into the display tank, so for me the two seem to be fine. The order is over the first and then under the second. The measurements seem about the same as yours, but I just slapped it together without really measuring anything.
I was going to try that pressure baffle thing with the EPDM but couldn't find it locally anywhere. I did find another type of saltwater safe weather stripping and gave it a shot with that. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get a water tight seal. The sides and bottom were fine, but I got leaks in the corners. I went with silicone instead. I just used my finger to apply it in the narrow gap between baffles. It worked out really well. HTH
