Best Sump Skimmer or External for 40gallon SPS, LPS, and Clam Tank? Quiet?

Okay,
So I've been reading on here that the Remora Pro sucks. I was going to hang it on my sump. So My question is, what is the best skimmer for my 40 gallon reef? It will house LPS, SPS, and Clams. I need a quiet Skimmer. The 40 gallon reef will also have a 29 gallon sump/refugium. So after my research done in April, I decided on the Remora Pro. I bought it for 250.00. I heard they were the best back then. =( So what skimmer do you all recommend now? Main Display fish is a Mandarin and lets plan ahead for a nicely stocked tank. Thank you all.

The Euro-Reef RS-80's are on sale for $190 from most vendors (marine depot, premium aquatics), I'd personally go with this as at that sale price it's the best performance/cost ratio of the Big 3 (ER, Deltec, H&S) NW's right now. Now if you're thinking of going bigger in the future to a 120/180/210 range I'd look more into an H&S of the appropriate size.

Quiet "In-Display" Skimmer

For my 29-gallon refugium sump, I've ordered the Tunze 9010 and its magnetic holder. At a LFS, it was very quiet. If not for the large transparent collection cup, the Tunze 9010 is attractive enough to be an "in-display" skimmer for the main tank.

At another LFS, I also checked out the "in-display" Deltec MCE600 and MCE300. They are HOB skimmers with their pumps hidden inside the skimmer body so there is little intruding into the tank. Unfortunately, the LFS was so noisy that I could not determine which skimmer or pump the noise was coming from.

ooo I almost forgot the Tunze, yeah that 9010 is a nice skimmer, I had a 9005 for a bit used in tank and in sump that did a solid job. I woudln't go with a HOB skimmer, even one as nice as the MCE600, any good sump skimmer will crush it.

Well unless you're dumping your remora ever 2 or 3 days because it's full, you an probably do better, much better. This is based on pretty average tank conditions.

Future corals I'd like to keep Favia, Montipora Vase Coral, Stylophora Coral, Pink Peony Pocillopora Coral, Evergreen Starburt Coral, Pipe Organ Coral, Branching Acropora down the road, crocea clams, Sunburt Coral, Zoanthids in low flow areas, main display fish is a mandarin. So what skimmer do you recommend? These are of course my future inhabitants. I know I wouldn't add them to start off with. Remember I need a quiet skimmer. Thank you all.

Didn't Work for Me

I have no experience with the Remora Pro. My regular Remora with the MJ1200 & skimmer box does not produce enough skimmate on my 104-gallon system to keep the nitrates down.

Other forum participants have stated that there are better skimmers for the money than the Remoras. See RichConley's post on 11/16/2006 07:42 AM in the forum: "Why Diss the Aqua C Remora?"
