Found new thing in tank, and don't know what it is
I was looking at my tank last night and found on a peice of my live rock a green bubble cluster. There is a larger one in the middle and three little ones attached to it that I can see. What is this, and do i need to get rid of it?

Sounds like bubble algae. I would remove it without popping it.

How do I remove it, with out popping it, and without taking the live rock all the way out of the water? Because isn't bad if I take the LR out of the water? or at least that is what teh LFS told me.

Here's an article on it: http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/20...ture/index.php
You just need to be careful when removing it by hand not to pop it. |

Thanks for the article. Now lets just hope I can get it out without popping it, and spreading it even more.

just reach in and pluck it off, they are pretty durable... Even if you knock it off it will stay intact so you can grab it while floating

remove the rock and clean it outside of the tank. I am pretty good with popping them off, but will still pop about 1/20. If you pop them spores go everywhere. If the rock is outside the tank then you can flush it with saltwater. I use toothpicks as the wood is softer than metal tweezers or other stuff. Just get under it and slowely work them loose. I have a nano that had bubble in it and have since pulled the rock 2 times...each time with less showing up after. And now have only 1 bubble left...will be removing it tonight.
JUST DONT BUST ONE IN THE TANK!

I hear this "Dont bust it" thing pretty often...
Emerald crab is going to bust it unless you know one with a really BIG mouth

I would take the rock completely out and clean it off that way, if you pop them it will spread and become a major pain. In my experience it was very easy to pop the bubble algae I had. I eventually bought an emerald crab and he took care of it for me.

I have 2 emerald crabs in my tank and they have never touched the bubble algae in my tank. I always has to pick it off by hand.
I wish I knew where people got all these bubble eaten, algae eatin crabs and fish. Regards, Pat
