filter media

I was wondering what everybody uses to rinse their filter media?
Is it alright to rinse in tap water? When you rinse the new media such as carbon to remove dust should I use RO/DI, or will small amount of tap water matter?

RO/DI is the best choice as there are no impuritys for the carbon to absorb.
