How To Calculate Tank Exchange
Folks,
I have a 54g reef tank and I'm curious how one would go about figuring out what the water exchange rate is. I've read that 10x an hour is ideal, but have no idea if thats the flow I have in my tank. Anyone know of a way to calculate this?? Thanks! L3

Between display and sump, ~ 3 - 5x display size after headloss. Display turnover, depends on what you have in there. FO, LPS/Softies, SPS, etc.

there is a head loss calculator on reef central home page. scoll down the page its on the left hand side. You will be able to get close with that calculator. If yourpump is not listed use one with similar specs. once you calc. head loss it will give you gph. divide that number by your tank size, 54, and that will be your turn over rate....
