new setup ?s Need help

I recently purchased a oceanic 70RR and have a sump for the tank. I had originally planned on placing the sump under the tank, but after reading several post about having the sump and other equipment in the basement I thought this might be a good idea? If I were to do this I would need a run from the sump to the return nozzle of about 10' or 11'. What size pump would be good for this? I was looking at the Mag drives and it looks like a 12 or 18 would do the trick with head loss. Does this sound right. Any suggestions would be helpful. I have time as I will probably not set everything up until after the holidays. I would like to be able to do the water changes, have the skimmer and other equipment easily accessable and not worry about making a mess in the room where the aquarium is.

Thanks in advance.
