Possible fish ID?
I was at an office tonight and I saw a cool fish in a 12G nano.
It is about 3 inches long and has five or six long, stringy, tentacle-like "beard hairs". It looked very cool. I know it is hard to ID a fish w/o pictures, but if this sounds at all familiar to anyone, I'd love some suggestions about what it might be. I don't know anyone who works there, so I can't really go back to ask about it. Any ideas? |

Were the "tentacle-like beard hairs" sifting through the sand and did the actual fish look something like these? (They're called "goatfish"):

That's the one, aquareefer! It was a coral catfish. Very cool looking.
What can you guys tell me about that fish? Also, is that picture you posted real, or a composite? It looks crazy with that many fish stuffed into one little cave. That goatfish looks neat, too. Are they all yellow? |

Cool looking fish as a juvenille, but they loose that nifty racing stripe as an adult. It will also outgrow the 12g nano they have it in now. They are garbage pails in terms of diet, so are easy to keep. The big drawback, however, is they are venomous, so caution must be excercised around them if you get any for yourself

Yes they will def outgrow that nano, I believe they can reach up to a foot long. That picture is real. They are a schooling fish, so they love being in groups. Once they get older they might lose they schooling tendencies but almost need it as a younger fish.

Well, since I'm getting a 25G I guess I won't have room for one of those, but they are cool looking! Thanks for the info everyone.
