cooking rock

what exactly is "cooking" live rock. i had seen it posted here a few times. also what is this going to do...

letting it cycle in complete darkness to kill off stuff on the rock besides the bacteria

sometimes. If your calcium and mag are right, then i've found that the coraline still stays there. Doesnt grow, but it doesnt die

so adding calcium supplement stuff will keep the coralline? or is it just luck of the draw?

(not that I have any real coralline, and sorry for jumping on the thread!)

I'm not so sure about adding calcium. But i know that you should never add stuff w/out already knowing what yours is at So if yours is at 400-450, then that would give you your best chance. Personally tho, i wouldnt be worried about the coraline. I honestly wish i didnt have it in my tank. Sure the rock looks nicer...but all my rocks are covered in corals and i cant even see the rocks for the most part lol. However its growing all over my glass and i constantly have to scrape it off.
