The BEST skimmer for a 120 gal?

Hi, I'm in the process of planning my new tank that I will be setting up sometime around february(120 gal 48X24X24). Its going to be an SPS and LPS dominated tank and I want to buy the best skimmer possible for this size tank. I was looking at the deltec AP600 or APF600 or one of the euroreef skimmers as a possibility, but I wanted to see what other people thought about these skimmers and any other ideas. I can't really afford to go over $800 or so but I just want to make sure I get the correct size. For instance, there is a $200 difference between the AP600 and the APF600. Is it worth it to go with the APF or would I be just as well off with an AP600 on this size tank. Thanks for any and all help!

best skimmer

I really like ASM skimmers, easy to use, work great and relatively inexpensive.

I would think a 4 or a 4x would be MORE than sufficient for a 120!

Go for an H&S A150-F2001. Similar skimmer to the Deltec but better quality construction. Price is $649.00. I debated both and went with H&S.

Try a H&S A150-2001 rated for 225gal, I love my A200 3xF2001 on my 120gal at this moment until I replace it with a 220gal. Built like a tank and the aquabee pump uses only 38W of juice plus what ever you feed it with. I have seen both Deltec and H&S and they both work the same but the H&S is built stronger and is usually cheaper. Finsreef says they are out of stock but I believe they just got a new shipment of them in and they don't seem to update the website too often.
I guess I was slower to post.

This is the best match in the H&S skimmer line for your system.

THanks for the help everybody. I like the fact that the H&S is cheaper than the deltec and its rated for the same size tank. Also glad to hear that its built stronger. I'm definitely leaning towards the H&S now. Anyone else have any experience with either the deltec or H&S that would like to offer your opinion?

You have A200 3xF2001 on a 220 gal? How did you end up making that decision? Does it shut down for a while waiting for the tank to catch up?

My local dealer told me Wednesday that their next shipment is caught up in US Customs right now and should be in anytime. Only discouraging news might be, because of the H&S skimmers are gainning popularity, is that this shipment might be presold already. Since waiting for the shipment, all the popular sizes have been pre-ordered or on hold for customers. Next shipment in 4-6 weeks.

Another vote for the H&S A150-F2001 from another happy user.

I used to run an A150. Great skimmer IMO.

I like ER's too. Thats what I run now.

Both do their job well. Both will remove DOC's from your tank.

Cheers,

Jim

I currently own both, the A150 and the APF600, both use the same AquaBee F2001 needlewheel pump. The performance for both skimmers is hard to tell that there is a difference. I'm using the A150 on a 175g FOWLR tank and the APF600 on a 75g reef tank. I was limited in space inside my 75g sump and needed the small footprint and height. Of course, I paid a premium for the smaller footprint, but love it as it is a poop sucking terror!
