Anemone Sting?
What does it look like when a fish gets "stung" by an anemone? I have a Royal Gramma that has a spot on him where it looks like the scales have fallen off and the skin underneath is exposed. It's a very small spot, on the purple part of his body, I've tried to get a picture but haven't had any luck and it's hard to see unless the light is shining just right. He's seems very happy and not showing anything wrong. There's a BTA in the tank. If not an anemone sting what else could it be? The only other occupants in the tank are another Royal Gramma, a couple Osc. Clowns and the usual crabs and snails including a Sally Lightfoot.

It could have rubbed against a rock, but it does not sound like an anemone sting. It could be the crabs, but it's doubtful.

possibly?
it could very well be an anemone sting. i work at petsupermarket (one of the few that sells saltwater) and i started to feed the anemones feeder goldfish which made them look really beautiful and many customers would buy them for their healthy appearance. well one day, my friend ryan was scrubbing the tank and he brushed up against an anemone. the sucker must have learned to become aggressive to things it thinks are fish, because it latched on and stung him pretty bad and almost drew blood. not to mention dragonets are not to be kept with anemones because of their slow movement and likeliness the anemone could grasp them and swallow them up...so it could have possibly grabbed a hold of him while he swamn by just like one did to ryan.

I also noticed this fish flashing against a rock so now I'm wondering if it's possible ich. I just posted another question about whether fish will flash for any other reason besides ich.

Fish will flash against substrat and rocks when they are uncomfortable for some reason.. salinaty.. ich.. or other diseases as well.
The best way I can describe it is they are scratching an itch. I cant say I recall ever hearing of an anemone drawing blood though... but I am hardly an expert on anemone. |
