Galaxea coral, what is that?

Pardon my total ignorance... Recently I got Galaxea coral (freebe), does anyone knows what kind of animal is that? LPS? SPS? Does it needs to be fed?

If you would have to categorize it it will fall under the LPS category. Remember that these terms "LPS", SPS", etc are hobby terms, so they are used very loosely. It needs good lighting and moderate flow, make sure it's not close to any other tankmates since it's very agressive. It captures particles from the water column, but no target feeding is necessary.

There's no stupid questions, just stupid people who don't ask them. Next time though, ask first buy later. It will save you tons of $$$

its a stony coral, and its got large(ish) polyps that come out, so i'd say LPS. Its definately not a softy and not a sps.

Thanks, I got this coral as a freebie, and guy told me that this is a stony coral. I just wanted to know how it is classified in "our" terms. LPS - works for me.
Thanks again.

yes, LPS

since you are new still, be careful what you place it next to, because it can send out quite long sweeper tentacles that will kill many other corals

I was told that they are from the same family as the frog spawn and hammer coral. I have had mine for about 1.5 years and it is doing great. It seems to like the high flow areas of a tank.
