Which Calcium Reactor..........

After the first of the year I will be upgrading my current 75 gallon to a 120 and will be looking for a Calcium Reactor. I think I have narrowed it down to either an MRC or a GEO and would like to hear your thoughts and experiences on these 2 units. Thank you........

I posted the same question about 3 weeks ago and from all my searches and discussion with various folks you are probably be happiest with a Geo. No disrespect intended to others, its just that most discussions with guys that had multiple tanks or serviced tanks said the Geo's are built like tanks and very consistent.

I have a Schuran Jetstream 1 on my tank. IMO, it's one of the best CA reactors on the market.

Tony...

I was looking at the Jetstream also. Theres no doubt that it is a very efficient unit. I was going to purchase when on one of the vendor forums an individual was looking for a part and the vendor indicated that getting parts for their reactors was very difficult here in the US. Sometimes 6-8 week wait. That fact alone made me look elsewhere.

What parts does a reactor use other than media? The re-circulation pump is a small eheim, you can get these in the US ok can't you? The Eheim pump is the only moving part/bit that is subject to wear out.

The individual was looking for a part on the top of the reactor. Something had cracked..... Cant remember exactly what it was, I just know the vendor is also a distributor and made the comment via post that parts took a long time..

I would go with the GEO if only given the choice of that or a MRC. At that, if you want the most constant, set & forget setup, a korallin is the ticket. Much of the GEO design is taken from the korallin, right down to the integrated bubble-counter, upflow design, and eheim pump. Schurans are the most efficient, and deltecs have the highest output.

Hahn,

You really think the Korallin is the best reactor? I am curious to your opinion since I was thinking Korallin until I started reading the Korallin thread. Seemed like many were having problems getting them set up and dialed in right. I do understand that they are very consistent, once dialed in, I dont read / speak german and understand that the instructions are a source of frustration for many.

Havent bought a geo yet but probably will by weeks end,

By the way, thanks for all the contributions in the T5 thread(s)

Thanks

I have a korallen 1502, and to me its easy... pretty much 'set and forget'. I dont know why others have such problems. But I do consider it the most consistant... close second being the schuran.

The best as far as output... just raw dKH of output... the deltec, hands down.

What makes the GEO less "set and forget" than the korallin??
