Salt Creep on MH Bulb

Sorry for such a random question...I have a MH bulb that has a good amount of salt creep on it, even though it is 8 inches above the tank. After the light has been off for a considerable amount of time, should I go ahead and wipe it off with a damp towel dipped in RO/DI water? Or would it be best to leave it alone and not mess with the bulb. I did try the search function to no avail. Thanks for any help!

definetly remove that salt creep. If it gets to the base of the bulb, it can get inside the socket and short out your ballast and cause a fire.
The thing you need to do, is figure out why your getting salt creep 8" above your water..
when the bulb is cool, remove it, clean it very well, dry it and re-install it. Wipe the bulb down with an alcohol pad or other soft cloth soaked in alcohol.

Check the socket for salt too. Salt is a great conductor...

Hey Matt,

Thanks for the advice. I'll do that as soon as the bulb cools down. I have no idea why I would get salt creep that high up :-(
