HQI Mounting Height Question

I am mounting 3 250w 15k HQI metal halides over my work in progress
125 reef. I am planning on building my own canopy w/ exhaust, but i haven't decided on an appropriate mounting height yet. Any suggestions? Thanks for any help.

I run my 250's about 10" off the surface of the water. Gives me a little room to work without bumping my hands into the really hot glass shields/surrounding metal when the lights are on. Also is high enough to keep most splashing/bubbles from getting salt creep on the fixture. Finally, 10", I find, spreads the light really well and doesn't sacrifice light for my sps. So, for me 10" works really well.

I run 150W and have them 6'' above the water surface.

Mine is at 12" to keep the heat down and it still nukes the tank.
