Will adding dry rock to an existing reef tank cause a problem
I am about to purchase 40 lbs of dry lace rock. It will be added to my 70-80 lbs of corraline encrusted premium live rock. This rock has been in my tank for about 3 years. I recently updated from a 75 to 120 and need the extra rock.
Will adding this all at once cause a cycle or any other problems? I want to add this to mostly the bottom of the reef structure.

Uh why in the world would you get lace rock. Why not get some base rock at least. No point to add lace rock just for looks but will do you tank no good.

Hey toledo did you post a few days ago on the new place outside Columbus were to but coral/rock? If so I checked that site out and it seems pretty cool. Lace rock I read in time will have benefits just like live rock. I read that it will save from taking rock out of ocean. I don't know or have a lot of knowledge on this subject but would like to. Please keep me update, I would like to know how it turns out. PS how bout them Buckeyes?

I add small amounts of dry base rock to my reef all of the time with no problems. I make sure that it is rinsed so that no contaminates are on it.

also if your adding ALOT you might want to watch the temp. i would think if you added alot of cold rock your temp would drop pretty quick till the heaters catch up.

No but make sure you clean out the rock as well as you can, my dry rock had all sorts of dirt and crap stuffed in all the little holes.
