Really loud pump
Hi,
A couple days ago I got a Rio Hyper Flow 20 as the return pump in my sump. It is stuck to the bottom of the sump using the bracket and suction cups provided and is hooked up to 3/4 inch PVC. This thing is loud. Not even the TV can drown it out. Any suggestions or hints? Is it supposed to be this loud? It works fine, it just gives me a headache 24/7. Thanks. |

all pumps and powerheads if water flow is restricted to much it will cause the rotor to slide up thus the noise. Is it the right size pump for your application. You would need at least 1.5" drain.

the pump could quite possibly be moving water with a low head pressure shut off and be having to work extra hard to mowe the water. i would see what the pump is rated for in head hight and possibly get a more powerful one

It's rated for up to 11 feet, I'm using about 6 feet of PVC. Water flow is not restricted, I have it set up so that it is hooked up to a T, one end goes back to the tank, the other goes back to the sump (both routes have ball valves) so that I can adjust the flow to the tank without putting pressure on the pump (the extra water is simply diverted through the T back to the sump).
