modifying a 150 watt hqi fixture

Hello,

Can I replace teh lamps and ballast in a 150 watt pendant fixture housing with 400 wattlamps and power it witha 400 watt ballast?

What would the concerns be?

Heat? There are two fans inside the housing. The wiring is rated for 600 volt similar to other 400 watt fixtures?

Teh housing is an Odyssea 48" housing that was designed for 150 watt de bulbs.

I ahve a pfo dual 400 watt ballast that I was hoping to use.

Please let m eknow if there are any other concerns that I can address.

Thanks,

Bill B

i posted the same question regarding my outer orbit 48" hqi setup. apparrently noone really knows! someone mentioned that all i'd need to do is replace the ballasts and brackets since the 150's are differrent from the 250's and 400's and that's about it. several other people tagged along on my post hoping to get an answer also. good luck on your search!

I'd worry about heat issues and burning down the house.

As long as there is sufficient ventilation with said fans, there should not be any reasons why this can't be done. A fixture is still just a fixture regardless of wattage of the ballasts or bulbs.

The only differences are the ballasts and bulbs as mentioned already by others.

You can add more powerful cooling fans to be sure that there won't be an overheat issue.
