Substitute Lighting for FOWLR

Would i be able to get away with any sort of lighting that could be purchased from home depot. the fluorescents that i have arent cutting it. is it really essential to pay insane amounts of cash for aquarium lighting for a FOWLR. i just want to keep my live rock and critters happy and to get some GSP really going. THAT IS IT.

anyone ever try something like this?

you are better off getting a retro like a workhorse 7 with some cf or t-5's or vho's that will cost you for the ballast around 40 bucks and endcaps and bulbs like 60 so like 100 thats basic lighting but as for the ones at home depot it may work depending if you like that color i never tried it because i needed better lighting i would think a simple cf or those at home depot would work.
