Excessive center brace.
I've got a 50Gal tank 36X18X18 made from 1/4" thick glass
The center brace on it is 9" wide and 1/2" thick. Is it just me or does that seem like a wee bit of overkill. So opinions on either removing it entirely or size of a smaller replacement would be greatly appreciated. |

My 112 has about a 7-8in brace and it's kinda thick. It's an older tank though, so I'm hesitant to try and trim it down. I'd just leave it alone.

My concern with it is, With a such a large thick piece of glass.
Is gonna block way to much light. |

Yes, the old 50 breeders did not have a brace at all. Who built the tank?

I have heard that just a dirty brace can limit light up to 10%.

A clean brace could probably limit light 10%.

The tank was built by a local company SeaStar aquariums.
They are for building $hit brickhouse aquariums. Other then the size of the brace it's a very nice heavey duty tank. |
