Interesting Idea

Ok, I have the cravings for a large tank.
But.... I dont want to go with the regular tank and stand and sump style

I want something original!

So I was thinking that I would buy a normal rubber maid tub and cut off the lip
It would be FOWLR

And I was also think maybe I could cut out a square- 12''x12" in one of ther sides and then put and acrylic sheet on the inside to have a looking hole.

For Filtration I could have 3 powerheads and 2 HOBs-1 for Carbon the other for a fuge

For lighting- I could get a coralife with mountings so I could adjust to fit the lip

This is what im getting

http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?actio...BFR&lpage=none

I need advice/comments/critique

Thank you!!

dude... maybe if you wanted to do a 900g tank that would be an alright idea(minus the filtration you have) but just go buy a 29 gallon tank for $40...

cutting the lip off may damage the structural integrity of the tub causing it to bow and or split badly.

Ok, Ok,

If I dont cut the lip It will still be alright for my plans.

Ok, For the bowing problem dont you think I could ile Bricks around it to support it?

Do you think my looking hole will work?

I've tried something like that for a refug. and it didn't hold up. the plastis in to thin. While your at Lowes look for the black ones with the yellow lids, they run about $18. but do hold up. I've got 3 of them in use for over 1 year and no leaks yet.

Hey I use them for makup water and transport ....

DO NOT TRY IT!

while they are ok for holding tanks they do flex and bow a *LOT* under pressure.

when you cut the side to make that window you are almost for sure going to have leaks.

for example if you mount a window while it's dry when you fill it the tank will change shape and pull a seam open.

maby if you had thick plexi and made it go all the way and had a"frame" that kept the tub in the right shape w/o any movement...

bu then you could just buy a glass tank w/o all the possible problems....

I'd use one as a sump or a fuge or as a look-down tank.

cuting the side - no way.

My $0.02 worth any way

WILL NOT WORK.

The window will pull loose and leak badly.

Fishmon tried to put a window in a rubbermaid sump. BAD IDEA.

A frame may help, but I'd just buy a glass tank.
