33gal Long tank cycling question...
I'm running a 33gal tank skimmerless...
I went with about 30-35 pounds of cured rock initially. I'll probably add a bit here and there as I go on. My question is that I'm starting to see diatoms after leaving the lights on for about 6 hours today. Diatoms are typical of a new tank, but is there anything I should do, now that I see them? Leave the lights off? Do a water change? etc? There's nothing in the tank now other than a frag of green nepthia and a mushroom...

IME, there really isn't much you can do. Algae blooms come with the territory during a cycle. Simply work towards removing nutrients, ie. skimming, etc. You can run some phosphate binders to eliminate P04.

I'm running the tank skimmerless. I don't have a skimmer.
