Roasted Nori for Tangs?

As the title states, is it ok to feed Tangs Roasted Nori? Reason I'm asking is because I cannot find a single oriental market with unroasted Nori. Thanks!

Tang

the only problem with roasted nori, or any other roasted greenie is the fact that, most of the vitamins contained in the algae, is lost during the roasting process. if you do give roasted nori to your Tangs add some form of vitamins (vitachem or other), to compensate for the loss.

imho.

Thank you. I figured most of the vitamins would be sucked out during the roasting process. I'll have to do a more comprehensive internet search to find unroasted nori. Thanks again for the replies!

no problem. personally, i use Julian Sprung's SeaVeggies, and my fish seem very happy. granted even thought they already have vitamins, i still soak mine in vitachem anyways.

My tangs love the roasted nori. In fact all of my fish eat it up.

i have a feeling that all Nori is roasted. it's just how you make Nori. we may be calling various algae "nori" because we aren't well-versed in japanese cuisine, but I wouldn't knock yourself out searching for "unroasted nori." just an educated guess from scouring my huge Japanese grocery store and only seeing roasted. good luck!

That's what Ive been coming up against. I feed Ocean Nutrition and I'm not even sure if that formula is unroasted. I'll probably end up buying roasted and soaking it as everyone suggested.

Thanks for all the good tips.

if it's not roasted, it'll be fresh and in the produce area, not in a package on a shelf. non-roasted won't last any longer than any other vegetable.

I saw some air dried nori at a local chinese grocery store.
My tangs don't really like the grocery store bought nori, they seem to prefer Ocean Nutrition seaweed.

I'm glad all my fish like the grocery store brand

All my gobies, cardinals, blenny, shrimp, tangs, clowns, wrasses, did I miss anyone? They all eat it up. I never have any left against the overflow.

Checkout the nutritional value on the back of the package. We should eat so good. I prefer the peppered or hot varieties for my own consumption.

Duh! Thanks Charlie97L. I never even thought about that! Of course unroasted would not be packaged.

So....am I right in assuming that ocean nutrition is roasted?

ColeBC: Was it simply left out?? I would think it would spoil as Charlie mentioned.

Thanks Prugs, I'll check it out and see what I can come up with.

I don't think they leave it out. It was by a known company and they produce several air-dried products.
I'm not quite sure how the process works but it doesn't spoil the food.
I believe it's similar to freeze-drying.

I've tried to find fresh nori but I've only seen it once. Maybe I'm not looking at the right places

i feed the roasted nori. its just so cheap compared to petstore prices. there is a site that sells hundereds of sheets of nori, and they each have food grades on them. i dont think they are roasted. i think i just searched google for nori and found this site. i get my nori from the store.
