Is it OK to use an electronic speed control on external pumps?
I have a Panworld 100px-x as a return on my 180 and feel it has a little more flow than I would like through my sump which is a 55 gallon tank.
I have throttled it back with a gate valve after the pump exit and it works fine, but was wondering if using an electronic speed control to slow the pump down would hurt it while accomplishing the same thing? I tried it anyway and found it would do the same thing as throttling the flow down and it is alot quieter at the same time (which is good) because the pump is not running at full speed while having the same flow. Is this ok to do without hurting this type of pump? Just looking for some electrical advice I guess. Thanks. |

Is your pump running hot? What controller did you use?

No it's not running hot. The control is similar to this one.

I've always been told that you shouldn't use those speed controllers on pumps. You might want to look at this thread:
