75g to 300g Aquarium Swap: Tips? Pointers? Overflow Suggestions?

Hello RC,

Looking for a little help here, I just took the plunge to buy a tank Ive always wanted- a 300 Gallon acrylic tank.

I plan to take my time and buy everything nessessary to set it up correctly.

Firstly my current setup is a 75g Display plumbed in to a 55g "basement" sump.

When the change takes place I will use a 75g tank to replace my sump and obviously the 300g to replace my DT.

Currently I have one 3/4" feed, pushing about 600 GPH (after head loss) from the sump to DT. I have one 1" drain to return the water to my sump. My drain is just a stand tube with a "Maggie Muffler".. Not too loud actually.

So my main questions are:
Can a Bean Animal overflow be scaled up for a 300g tank or should I say..
around 1600 GPH?

If so...

What size feed and returns should I use?

How many feeds?
-I am thinking of using 2 1500 GPH pumps?
After head loss they should be around 800 GPH each.

What is the easiest way to transition from one tank to another?

-I was thinking of putting all my LR in a spare tank or Rubbermaid tub and keep some powerheads running and take my 2 current residents (Juvi Chocolate tang and a Powder blue) to my LFS, where I got them, for safe keeping?

Or could I just keep the fish in a smaller tank with an API Nexx filter for the transition period. Im thinking one or two weekends, maybe 7-10 days max for the swap.

Also currently I am working on reinforcing my floor beneath the location for the 2500+ pound DT and working on the design and buying all the materials for the custom stand and hood.

Thanks for any info or insight in advance guys.

no need to run that much flow through the sump, i have a 220g dt tank and run about 500hpg through it. I prefer to run low flow through the sump, keeps it quite, and then run about 12000gph in the tank for circulation. The lower flow in the sump also l;et the skimmer process all the water coming through the sump.

Really?

500 GPH on a 220g DT = 2.3ishx turnover

I was shooting for ONLY 5x turnover ..

1600 GPH on a 300g DT = 5.3x turnover

I though 5x was kinda low as it was...
